In my work, I combine black and white photography with prosaic texts, describing the world around us filtered through the world inside me. The photographs record moments at locations ranging from my living room to far away places and the words reflect the thoughts I had, the emotions I felt making the photograph. This combination is meant to inspire the viewer to find their own narrative in my images. I believe when the same mindfulness and openness that I try to practice finding and crafting these images is practiced looking at them, a photograph and a viewer can find each other and have a real connection. A connection that involves the viewer, the artist, the print and the reality it represents and so the circle is complete.
The photos are all captured on digital cameras and I use the processes and possibilities of the digital darkroom to further carve out priorities and emphasis in the images and map out the journey through the picture. Both in the cameras and in post-production lie any number of specific features and creative possibilities of the relatively young art form that digital photography has come to be. And still, the final product is the print as a piece of art to actually hold and appreciate.
Holger Mischke (born 1967) lives in Viersen, Germany with his wife Christina and their dog Leah. Although art and photography is his passion, he also cares for mentally handicapped persons part-time.

In meinen Arbeiten kombiniere ich Schwarzweißfotografien mit Prosatexten in denen ich die Welt um uns herum beschreibe, wie sie in der Welt in mir nachhallt. Die Fotografien halten Moment fest an Orten beginnend in meinem Wohnzimmer bis hin zu weit entfernten Teilen der Welt. Die Worte reflektieren die Gedanken und Gefühle, die ich bei den Aufnahmen hatte. Diese Kombination soll den Betrachter anregen, seine eigenen Geschichten in meinen Bildern zu finden. Ich glaube wenn man die gleiche Achtsamkeit und Offenheit, die ich beim Aufspüren und Erstellen dieser Bilder übe, auch bei ihrer Betrachtung anwendet, können eine Fotografie und ihr Betrachter sich finden und eine wirkliche Verbindung haben. Eine Verbindung des Betrachters, des Künstlers, des Druckes und der Wirklichkeit, die er repräsentiert - der Kreis schliesst sich.
Die Fotos sind alle mit digitalen Kameras aufgenommen worden und ich nutze die Prozesse und Möglichkeiten der digitalen Dunkelkammer, um Prioritäten und Schwerpunkte weiter herauszuarbeiten sowie die Reise durch das Bild zu planen. Sowohl in der Kamera als auch in der Bearbeitung liegen unzählige Eigenschaften und kreative Möglichkeiten der vergleichsweise jungen Kunstform der digitalen Fotografie. Und doch steht am Ende der Druck als das Kunstwerk, das man tatsächlich berühren und anerkennen kann.
